While being students at RISD, designers Chelsea Green, James Minola, and Brit Kleinman of Grain teamed up for a project led by designer Mimi Robinson. The project called for designing unique textile products that celebrate Guatemalan artisan techniques while building incomes for the artisans. (via)Sololá celebrates the artistry of Guatemalan weavers. Each purse upcycles a vintage huipil (a traditional blouse woven on the backstrap loom) to create an individual statement. Turned inside-out, the huipils are an explosion of color and hand work.
